POEMS ASKING QUESTIONS
May 3, 2026 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm
details: https://classroom.ruthstonehouse.org/product/poems-asking-questions/
POEMS ASKING QUESTIONS
a five-week generative writing seminarWhat are your questions? Where do they live? Where might they want to go? In this five-week generative writing seminar we will explore varying ways questions are at work in poems. What relationship do questions have with the line, stanza, music, rhythm, diction, tone, imagery, and metaphor? Open questions. Closed questions. Rhetorical questions. Convergent questions. Divergent questions. Leading questions. Hypothetical questions. Specific questions. Hidden questions. Hiding questions. We will read and discuss a range of modern and contemporary poems and poets, looking to their questions to expand and complicate our understanding of the possibilities questions provide. This seminar will operate as both a discussion and a space for the generating of new work with in-class writing exercises and readings.
